Songs for Heartache & Grief

Music has a way of touching our souls when words are lost. Going through grief and pain can make you feel so alone. I'm reminded of David when he was alone tending sheep. The loneliness and rejection that he felt must have been unbearable at times. Thankfully, he wrote down words and set them to music. I wonder how much more impactful the Psalms would be if we set them to music?

If you're wondering what to listen to during those dark and heavy days, I've compiled a list for you:

"You're Gonna Be Okay"- Jenn Johnson, Bethel Music (specifically the version from PEACE VOL II, actually just the whole album tbh)

"The Garden"- Kari Jobe

"I Will Sing"- Kari Jobe

"Highs & Lows"- Hillsong Young & Free

"Praise Before My Breakthrough"- Bryan and Katie Torwalt

"Even When it Hurts"- Hillsong United, Of Dirt and Grace (Live from the Land)

"You're Not Finished Yet"- The Belonging Co, Maggie Reed

"Concrete (Acoustic)"- Fresh Life Worship

This list isn't exhaustive. Songs proclaim what's in our heart even if we can't figure it out completely. Hopefully the songs you sing will anchor you when it's dark and heavy. It's okay if we don't feel victory in the moment. God understands our humanity. He is not judging us because we can't sing a song of triumph. In fact, I believe that God honors our brokenness when we bring it before Him He would rather us be real. This doesn't mean we're without hope and in utter despair. But if you're feeling it in the moment, feel it. It's okay. This is your permission to grieve and feel every ounce of that grief even if you know that God has won.
